Samsung teases Super Bowl ad

the-next-big-thing

Samsung just released a teaser video for their upcoming Super Bowl XLVI ad. This is the company’s first Super Bowl ad, so they decided to go all out with a 90 second spot, one of the longest of the big game. Samsung previously announced that the Bobby Farrelly, known for directing famous comedy films There’s Something About Mary, Dumb and Dumber and Kingpin, would produce the ad and it would run during the 4th quarter.

As you can see from the clip below, the ad will continue Samsung’s The Next Big Thing campaign that pokes fun at Apple fans waiting in line for the iPhone 4S. We already know that Samsung will use the spot to promote the AT&T Galaxy Note, which goes on pre-order February 5th. Based on the comments from our previous article, it looks like people are stoked about the ad but they are still unsure about their feelings for the Galaxy Note.

Make sure to tune in Sunday at 6:30 PM to catch the big game and then come back to let us know what you think. For those of who can’t find the game on a local affiliate, it will also be streamed live on NBC.com. Samsung is also encouraging their fans to visit their Facebook page and vote the add as one of their favorites for the Super Bowl.

Any guesses what happens next?

I know everyone is talking about this being for the G-Note, has Samsung said offically that it is for the G-Note. With them not announcing the SGIII at MWC the superbowl would be a huge susprise and would throw the industry for a loop.

Did you read the title of the teaser video?

classic

I think instead of just having the “waiters” say “I’m so bored” they should have them tapping around their phones and saying “ugh, 500,000 apps and I’m STILL bored”. :)

This will probably end up being a waste of money like the Motorola one was last year.

The Note is cool and all but its literately a bigger SGSII. I understand we don’t have it in the states, but being a mobile nerd knowing of this phone months ago, its nothing new. It just has a higher Res and a few notepad/tablet like features or display of things inside the apps because the screen is so big. So now AT&T will have several variants of the same phone. Samsung makes awesome phones when it comes to the Galaxy series but these rehashes are annoying in my opinion. I think its silly. That’s why global launches of things should exist, because relaunching something months later as if its the first time ever & another region when people like us aren’t new to this..just takes away.

Looking forward to the SGSIII

This will be a waste of money. Show me the damn phone and /why/ it’s better. This type of advertising only plays to confirmation bias. You are only playing to people who already like Android and hate the iPhone. You won’t lure any iPhone customers away with this.

Are you aware of what the word “teaser” means? I’ll give you a hint. This isn’t the full commercial.

Reply 34Vance 17 hours ago Thumb upThumb down +5

I disagree with this comment. You don’t think the “I’m a Mac, and I’m a PC” commercials lured any fence-sitter PC users over to the hip and trendy Mac? Don’t you think there are iPhone users who are only iPhone owners because it’s what everyone else had, who will be impressed upon by this type of advertising?

nod.

These ads are always fun to to watch since most of the time it is true.

This would be cool if it was for the Galaxy Nexus, but the note has a totally different consumer base than the iPhone.

What is that?

Samsung Galaxy S3!

Probably not, but I could dream.

Reply 45DroidPower 11 hours ago Thumb upThumb down 0

we all can dream… Samsung just announced that the next galaxy SIII will be announced sometime when it’s closer to commercial availability ( aka “post MWC”).

Reply 77Homncruse 11 hours ago Thumb upThumb down -1

“What is that?”

Why, it’s just Andy (or Bugdroid, if you prefer), in godzilla size with death laser eyes. Nothing more.

The Galaxy S3 will be just another Android phone with more cores, faster frequency, better resolution etc. The Android hardware market is starting to resemble the console wars of the last 10 years. Sony and Microsoft just kept making consoles faster with better graphics until Nintendo came along and showed them it wasn’t ‘just’ all about speed and graphics.

To the person who said the Galaxy Note is just a bigger Galaxy s2, you couldn’t be more wrong. The devices have virtually no similarities in the slightest and that statement is just an ignorant generalization.

Like the Nintendo Wii, the Galaxy Note is a revolutionary device re-introducing the 5.3 form factor (where Dell failed to seize the day) and it has millions of people worldwide falling over themselves to get their hands on it. This device is selling like hot cakes and it hasn’t even been released in the States yet. Throw your pads away as they are no longer required.

So for all those haters saying the Note didn’t deserve this ad, suck it up. I’d suggest Samsung have seen how well these are selling already, and are adding a little icing to the US launch to get a little more frenzy into it’s already runaway worldwide success. The Note given its peculiarities could have gone 3 ways, total flop, niche device, or massive hit.. By thinking outside the square, Samsung have re-set the bar in the Android hardware market. It’s not all about CPU’s and GPU’s…

And Steve said the stylus was dead… Nice one Steve.

Got to agree… Back when the HD2 came out it seems 4.3″ screens would be the sweet spot for phones… But after having a HD2 for a few years(waiting for SGIII or other quad-core phone to upgrade)…. I need a 4.7″ or above 5″ phone(Will probably take a close look at the Asus PadPhone)… Hopefully they will update the note after they release SGIII…

Dell gave up on a great size device… If they would of updated & tweaked & released the Streak to all carriers they could of been ahead of the curve…
