Motorola Motoluxe budget Android phone outed

Motorola has announced its latest handset range for the budgets conscious, the Motoluxe.

Both stylish and unique – Moto's words – the Motoluxe packs in Android 2.3 Gingerbread and is one for cut-price fashionistas and part-time ravers – boasting both a slim chassis (117.7x 60.5 x 9.85mm) and a lanyard spot which comes complete with a flashing light.

The specs on the phone are actually fairly decent. There's a 4-inch (480x854) edge-to-edge touchscreen display, 8MP camera on board and a front-facing VGA camera.

All this is powered by an 800MHz processor and there's the likes of Bluetooth, GPS and DLNA on board.

You're in luxe

When it comes to a Motorola Motoluxe UK release date, we are expecting the phone to land in Europe this spring, although it could come as soon as February.

If you are living in China, then you may well like to know that the handset is already out in the shops there, under the less sexier moniker Motorola XT320.

Motorola has informed us that the phone will be appearing at CES 2012, so expect TechRadar's hands-on Motorola Motoluxe review next week.

New Motorola Razr outed in teaser video

Motorola has released a teaser video for a new phone being announced on the 18 October, with a number of visual hints to help is guess what it will be.

Given that the main thrust of the video seems to be that the new device will be faster and thinner, with multiple references made to a razor blade, it's pretty likely we're about to see the latest iteration from Motorola's popular Razr brand.

Add to this the leaked press shots and information around the Motorola Droid Razr that made their way to This Is My Next in the last fortnight, and it seems we're almost certain to be seeing the new Motorola Razr debuting on 18 October.

Early mooted specs include a 4.5-inch screen, a dual-core CPU running at 1.2GHz, 1 GB of RAM and an 8MP camera with 1080p video capture - essentially making it a slimmed-down and beefed-up version of the Motorola Atrix.

But an Atrix fused with a Defy, as there's plenty of reference to the fact the phone will have Gorilla Glass (the diamond) be covered in Kevlar (bullet-proof) and splash proof too (erm... the rocket?).

The question remains what the phone will be called in the UK - the names of Motorola Droid HD and Motorola Spyder have been mooted by some, with the latter making the most sense for us Brit-dwellers, given our apathy to the Droid moniker.

HTC Explorer outed ahead of launch?

It seems the HTC Rhyme won't be the only release from the smartphone brand this month, as the HTC Explorer has now been outed too.

The phone, previously known as the HTC Pico, was confirmed by online retailer Clove and Pocket Now.

The phone will have a 3.2-inch HVGA screen, a 600MHz processor, 512MB of internal storage and a 5MP camera.

Mo' specs, mo' information

Clove has also added the following specs, before the page was taken down: a 1230mAh battery, a specially designed homescreen for the HTC Sense UI (running, presumably atop Android 2.3) and a data control app for easy management of your mobile internet usage.

These specs suggest HTC is looking to plough deeper into the budget bracket it's been successful in with the HTC Wildfire and Wildfire S - and with a relatively limited spec sheet we'd imagine this phone could even hover around the £100-£120 mark.

We've heard there will be an HTC event on 6 October this year, so let's see if the HTC Explorer makes an appearance - this could be the handset you buy for the parents this Christmas as they embark on their 'my first smartphone' adventure.

HTC Bass outed - new name for Runnymede phone?

The unusually named HTC Runnymede looks likely to come to the UK in the guise of the HTC Bass, if a new web posting is anything to go by.

Online retailer Handtec has created a page for the HTC Bass, offering it SiIMfree and in a rather fetching white.

There's no price as of yet but there's a few specs listed.

The handset is said to be packing Google Android 2.3.4, has a 1.5 GHz (probably dual core) processor, 4.7-Inch screen, 16GB internal memory, 8MP rear camera and 1.3MP Camera, as well as GPS, WiFi and Bluetooth.

The Beats go on

The phone also has a Beats logo, hence the reason why the handset has been given the HTC Bass moniker.

Just this week, HTC unveiled its first phone to have Beats integration. The HTC Sensation XE marks the first time TechRadar has managed to listen to the Beats technology within a handset and we were impressed with the results.

The tie-up with Beats all stems from HTC acquiring a 51 per cent stake in Beats Electronics in August for a cool $300 million (£190 million).
