We knew Samsung was reviewing their options for the Galaxy S III launch, and now it appears the company will skip Mobile World Congress in favor of hosting their own special launch event.
A Samsung representative issued a statement to TechRadar which read, “Samsung is looking forward to introducing and demonstrating exciting new mobile products at Mobile World Congress 2012. The successor to the Galaxy S2 smartphone will be unveiled at a separate Samsung-hosted event in the first half of the year, closer to commercial availability of the product.”
Some have speculated that Samsung had a delay in manufacturing or it was a strategic move to rival the iPhone 5 that is rumored to launch in July.
We are hoping this move means that we could see Samsung’s new 2 GHz Exynos 5250 processor inside the Galaxy S III. This next-generation processor will be the first to feature ARM’s Cortex-A15 CPU core and Mali-T604 GPU. Samsung recently announced it would go into volume production in Q2, so we think it should be ready for the device’s launch.
Thankfully Samsung will still introduce some other new mobile devices at MWC 2012, and we will be on-site to check out whatever gets revealed.

Samsung needs to hurry up because I’ve been waiting for this phone since I heard about quad core phones, I want my next phone to last almost 3 years like my current galaxy vibrant..
ReplyThey must do it on their own terms. I think there will be 2 flavors: dual-core and quad-core. My best guess is that at MWC 2012, Samsung will emphasize new tablets and the Galaxy Note (they started with the Note in USA with the Superbowl).
ReplyLooks like we have the same plans. I just hope it has a huge screen and no capacative buttons. Hopefully, they don’t work the GPS through RIL which was also worked through the framework this time or how ever it was Samsung messed up the Vibrant (since the framework of these Android phones ALMOST always are proprietary.)
ReplyI am pretty sure Samsung wont disappoint you!
ReplyIf they go with the Exynos 5250 then it would be a Cortex-A15 dual core.
The other option is quad core Cortex-A9.
Which do you prefer. Quad Core Cortex-A9 or Dual Core Cortex-A15?
I say give me the dual core Cortex-A15, and couple that with excellent battery life. Should out perform any Quad Core.
ReplyGreat news. Sell the product a week after the announcement, not a year later.
Replysadly this was only on the USA, the rest of the globe got its SII love pretty fast, hope that usa have it fast this time
ReplyYeah, a lot better marketing strategy than the GNex. At least SOMEONE was paying attention during that Verizon/Samsung release fiasco.
ReplyIt will be the best if it has dual-core exynos A15 and 720p superamoled HD true RGB or 1080p rgb/pentile
ReplyKudos for understanding that pentile means cr#p unless it’s 1080p !
ReplyI wish you could upgrade smartphone processors like you can computer processors! I’d love this processor in my GNex.
ReplySince phones are SoC (System on a Chip), it is not possible. I bet hardware manufacturers are really happy about this, though.
Reply+1. Upgrade the RAM too. Fug it… swap-able logic boards. I’d still be rocking the OG Nexus One.
ReplyI’m not upset about this. This is good news actually. I just hope they get it out in a timely manner across the world. I just hope they screen has a real RGB display. I guess I’ll stick to the Galaxy line on Sprint & the Nexus line on Verizon. I hope they came with something even better then SuperAmoled. I hope they make something that looks liquid wet because it’s so realistic looking.
Performance wise I am not worried. I mean this is Samsung we’re talking about. If it’s that new dual core they are talking about, then that’s fine to. I can see people bad mouthing it just because “quad core” isn’t the name, but not realizing the new A15 is pushing out awesome power.
ReplyThe screen on my GNex already looks amazing, it’s difficult to see how much better they can get (obviously they can up the resolution but in terms of quality) – it will be interesting to find out though…
ReplyIf Samsung makes sure that everyone who wants an iPhone 5 sees a galaxy s3 add which demonstrates how much better the s3 is than the iPhone 5, the s3 will DESTROY the iPhone in sales
ReplyNot sure that is true, apple has a lot of followers who don’t care about other manufacturers…
ReplyI understand that, i just meant that Samsung should try to force them to open their eyes and see other manufacturers
ReplyI’m not sure that is true either. Lots of people just know the iPhone is a great device, know that a new one is coming out, and thats all they consider.
That being said, I’m glad to see Samsung do this. Right now, they are the only ones that can compete with Apple in terms of hardware sales. And thats really the competition that matters. All the android fans can talk about internet traffic or total devices sold with Android vs iOS, but until the iPhone isnt the highest selling individual piece of hardware, Apple wins.
Not that I’m even rooting against Apple. They make a great device. But, I’d like to see the competition at the level where it really matters…. device vs device…. not os vs os.
Perhaps, with Samsung making it about Samsung vs Apple and not Android vs iOS, there can be a real brand identity thown into the arena, and people can start considering Samsung vs Apple as opposed to one of the undifferentialed Android device vs the iPhone. (and by undifferentiated, I mean undifferntiated to the general public… not the small percent of the market who hang out in these forums. I know we know the difference between all the Android options out there)
ReplyReally hoping the carriers don’t screw us over in the states and allow samsung to roll this out in the states near the time of the worldwide launch!
ReplyCarriers not screw up a big phone launch that’s not Apple? Not likely.
ReplyTake your time, Samsung, and produce a great product that is a true upgrade to the Galaxy SII. The last thing we need right now is another phone that has slight enhancements, which has only been maddening to consumers like the way AT&T brought out the Galaxy SII, the Skyrocket and now the Skyrocket HD.
Reply:’( more waiting…
I could really use a solid leak right now, wouldn’t mind a couple Mr. Blurrycam pics either.
Taylor to the rescue; check all your sources! ;)
well hopefully that not the only good phone they have, maybe the new gnex plus they are going to show at MWC
ReplyI’m stuck with my e4gt through 2013, but I can’t wait to see what the SG3 has to offer!
ReplyI’m kind of glad Samsung is holding their own event similar to what Apple does. I think it helps to show consumers that they are just as good as Apple and have enough clout to pull this off. And perhaps if the Samsung Galaxy S III comes off as very impressive, it might convince a few Apple fanboys to finally consider an Android device.
ReplyIt’s only right that Samsung hosts their own event for this phone. This is one of the most anticipated devices this year. I can see them doing this from now on. Hopefully this means that there will be a worldwide launch including the U.S. versions around spring/summer.
ReplyOh wow, this is gonna make my GNex look old
ReplyThis is great. Can’t decide on this or the updated Galaxy Nexus. Heard Samsung was showing off their new SOC. Any word on that Taylor?
ReplyThe way these phones are coming out I will want a new one every quarter!
ReplySo many choices!! I love it!!! Still loving my GNex but it could have a date with craigslist when this comes out.
Hopefully, the launch is more timely in the states than prior launches.
ReplySeeing samsung taking their time is definately a great thing. People should respect what samsung produces the same way they respect what apple produces. In my world samsung SMOKES apple all day long.
ReplyIt’s d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y, there is no a in definite or definitely, I’ve been watching you misspell that word which my 4-year-old daughter can spell over and over. In your world, whatever you happen to own at the moment “smokes” or “pimp slaps” or rapes, beats, or whatever retarded saying of the week you can think of. You are just a retarded shitskin, you’ve never owned anything aside from an Evo, E3D, which you found out pretty quickly was gimmicky as hell, and not the “ultra mega super grandpappy of 3D” or whatever other retarded sayings you’ve come up with. Now you went from “the now network in the boogie-infested bronx”, sorry, “boogie-down bronx” to the “useless network owned by the devil”, I mean, your Verizon’s little bitch, and you’re stupid enough to think that the Nexus line is meant to be the flagship Android device. It isn’t. It isn’t supposed to be, it’s a reference platform, but I’m impressed that you’re able to almost form a coherent sentence. Not bad for a sub-human!
Reply“People should respect what samsung produces the same way they respect what apple produces”
Wow. This coming from you has got to be THE most hypocritical BS you’ve ever come up with. Not even 5 months ago you wouldn’t shut up about “Samsuck” and the “Thunderdud”. Not even 4 weeks ago, all you could say about Apple was how your precious Galaxy Nexus “pimp slapped the iPhone all day long” or how Apple was nothing more than a “turd” among other extremely juvenile and downright childish insults. Please, if you can’t follow the rules you are stating (People should respect… what apple produces”, then shut the hell up. No one likes a hypocritical, two-faced suck-up.
And as Steve said, whatever you own “smokes” or “pimp/bitch slaps”, “owns”, “dominates”, etc, everything else. I remember plenty of times when you stated “the first Android phone I’ve ever owned, my beloved Evo 4G, pimp slaps the silly Epic 4G”. Then when you got the Evo 3D, you spoke of how “legendary” it was, and how it would be “Sprint’s flagship device well into 2012″. Well guess what Dick, it’s far from the flagship phone now. $99 on a 2 year contract just like the LG Marquee, Nexus S 4G, Epic 4G, Evo Shift 4G, and even the lowest model iPhone. Yeah, it was “legendary”… in it’s failure.
I am a huge htc fan and have only used htc for the last several years, but lately I am wanting to switch over to samsung due to their nexus and galaxy phones. I can’t wait to see the specs on this and if they will have an lte version for sprint.
ReplyFirst the ad campaign now holding their own event for their flagship phone. Looks like Samsung has learnt a lot from apple about marketing things. I like it. Now it’s other manufacturers turn follow.
ReplyYep, they still copy and learn from Apple even in this respect
ReplyI didn’t say copy. They aren’t copying but learning and improving. We all learn from others’ experience.
ReplyI’ve had a Samsung Galaxy S for almost a year now, but I’m beginning to question my loyalty to Samsung simply because they release a new phone almost every 8 – 10 months. It’s bordering on insane the frequency with which they release new phones. It’s almost as if they want to anger their customer base by always releasing new phones. Also, even though I enjoy the functionality of Samsung Phones, HTC’s always been a much more aesthetically pleasing phone.
I’m intrigued by HTC’s new mission statement to release high quality devices less frequently. If they hold true to their word and the HTC Congressional is as great as the specs appear, I might be shifting my loyalty. I will be looking to upgrade my phone sometime this summer; Samsung is really going to have to impress me to keep me as a loyal customer.
ReplyI love it can’t wait to get it i have gs2 for sprint love the mobile hope this one will be lte and don’t down size the screen 4.5 or bigger love it.
