We knew Samsung was reviewing their options for the Galaxy S III launch, and now it appears the company will skip Mobile World Congress in favor of hosting their own special launch event.
A Samsung representative issued a statement to TechRadar which read, “Samsung is looking forward to introducing and demonstrating exciting new mobile products at Mobile World Congress 2012. The successor to the Galaxy S2 smartphone will be unveiled at a separate Samsung-hosted event in the first half of the year, closer to commercial availability of the product.”
Some have speculated that Samsung had a delay in manufacturing or it was a strategic move to rival the iPhone 5 that is rumored to launch in July.
We are hoping this move means that we could see Samsung’s new 2 GHz Exynos 5250 processor inside the Galaxy S III. This next-generation processor will be the first to feature ARM’s Cortex-A15 CPU core and Mali-T604 GPU. Samsung recently announced it would go into volume production in Q2, so we think it should be ready for the device’s launch.
Thankfully Samsung will still introduce some other new mobile devices at MWC 2012, and we will be on-site to check out whatever gets revealed.

Hopefully, they don’t work the GPS through RIL which was also worked through the framework this time or how ever it was Samsung messed up the Vibrant (since the framework of these Android phones ALMOST always are proprietary.)

The other option is quad core Cortex-A9.
Which do you prefer. Quad Core Cortex-A9 or Dual Core Cortex-A15?
I say give me the dual core Cortex-A15, and couple that with excellent battery life. Should out perform any Quad Core.

I just hope they screen has a real RGB display. I guess I’ll stick to the Galaxy line on Sprint & the Nexus line on Verizon. I hope they came with something even better then SuperAmoled. I hope they make something that looks liquid wet because it’s so realistic looking.
Performance wise I am not worried. I mean this is Samsung we’re talking about. If it’s that new dual core they are talking about, then that’s fine to. I can see people bad mouthing it just because “quad core” isn’t the name, but not realizing the new A15 is pushing out awesome power.
ReplyThe screen on my GNex already looks amazing, it’s difficult to see how much better they can get (obviously they can up the resolution but in terms of quality) – it will be interesting to find out though…

ReplyI’m not sure that is true either. Lots of people just know the iPhone is a great device, know that a new one is coming out, and thats all they consider.
That being said, I’m glad to see Samsung do this. Right now, they are the only ones that can compete with Apple in terms of hardware sales. And thats really the competition that matters. All the android fans can talk about internet traffic or total devices sold with Android vs iOS, but until the iPhone isnt the highest selling individual piece of hardware, Apple wins.
Not that I’m even rooting against Apple. They make a great device. But, I’d like to see the competition at the level where it really matters…. device vs device…. not os vs os.
Perhaps, with Samsung making it about Samsung vs Apple and not Android vs iOS, there can be a real brand identity thown into the arena, and people can start considering Samsung vs Apple as opposed to one of the undifferentialed Android device vs the iPhone. (and by undifferentiated, I mean undifferntiated to the general public… not the small percent of the market who hang out in these forums. I know we know the difference between all the Android options out there)

ReplyI’m kind of glad Samsung is holding their own event similar to what Apple does. I think it helps to show consumers that they are just as good as Apple and have enough clout to pull this off. And perhaps if the Samsung Galaxy S III comes off as very impressive, it might convince a few Apple fanboys to finally consider an Android device.

I can see them doing this from now on. Hopefully this means that there will be a worldwide launch including the U.S. versions around spring/summer.

I am a huge htc fan and have only used htc for the last several years, but lately I am wanting to switch over to samsung due to their nexus and galaxy phones. I can’t wait to see the specs on this and if they will have an lte version for sprint.

ReplyI’ve had a Samsung Galaxy S for almost a year now, but I’m beginning to question my loyalty to Samsung simply because they release a new phone almost every 8 – 10 months. It’s bordering on insane the frequency with which they release new phones. It’s almost as if they want to anger their customer base by always releasing new phones. Also, even though I enjoy the functionality of Samsung Phones, HTC’s always been a much more aesthetically pleasing phone.
I’m intrigued by HTC’s new mission statement to release high quality devices less frequently. If they hold true to their word and the HTC Congressional is as great as the specs appear, I might be shifting my loyalty. I will be looking to upgrade my phone sometime this summer; Samsung is really going to have to impress me to keep me as a loyal customer.
