Samsung Nexus Prime with Ice Cream Sandwich emerges on video

No sooner had Google unwittingly confirmed the Ice Cream Sandwich launch for next week, than a video of the Samsung-made Nexus Prime handset leaks on to the web.

Update: Google and Samsung have canned their joint launch event. More here.

It's the first time we've seen the handset or the upcoming version of Android in any kind of detail, having had to make do with Samsung's teasers and a bad snap of the corner of the handset up until now.

It seems cliché to say, but the handset does seem to have a very iPhone-inspired look in this ill-lit video, although we can't see the back panel which Samsung's teaser implies is curved and tapers at one end.

Prime time

Looks like we won't have many buttons to play with when we get our hands on the device, with the navigation powered by soft buttons under the main display.

The screen should come in at around 4.6-inches and even in the video it looks crisp and sharp – as well it should given the 2.0mpd and 720p HD resolution we've already been treated to in the last leak.

The videographer also briefly tries out the camera, although it's not clear exactly what level of megapixellage its sensor offers and we can't really tell the picture quality from the clip.

The OS, Ice Cream Sandwich (also known as Android 4.0, according to accompanying screen shots of the phone), also looks pretty slick too, as you can see in the video below (bear in mind that it's probably not final software, though):

Not long to wait to find out more about the tasty-looking Nexus Prime – Samsung is due to unpack it on Tuesday 11 October. Stay tuned.
