Previously known as the Toshiba Excite X10, this super-thin tablet was unveiled last January at CES. Besides the thinness and awesome magnesium alloy casing, the tablet failed to impress us all that much. But if you’re looking for a tablet with good looks and average specs, this one can be yours in just a week (March 6).

There are two versions of the Excite 10 LE: one with 16 GB of internal storage and another with 32 GB. As we have already mentioned, the tablets will cost $529.99 and $599.99 respectively. This happens to be more expensive than tablets like the ASUS Transformer Prime, which offers a Tegra 3 quad-core processor and improved performance. Not to mention the fact that the $250 Tegra 3 MeMo is also on its way.

Toshiba Excite 10 LE Specifications

Android 3.2 Honeycomb “upgradeable to Android 4.0″10.1-inch 1280x800p IPS display, with Gorilla Glass1.2 GHz OMAP 4430 dual-core processor1 GB of RAM16/32 GB of internal storage (with microSD slot)5 MP rear-facing camera / 2 MP front-facingWiFi (802.11b/g/n) and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDRMicro USB, Micro HDMI ports

At this point, we should expect tablets such as these to be more affordable. After our hands-on time at CES, we loved the build and feel of the tablet, though. If you want the thinnest and lightest, this might be a great option for you.

Check out our hands-on video below and give us your opinion. Are any of you considering this device? It sure is good-looking!

Good luck selling this

$529.99 and $599.99 respectively! Very nice Toshiba!

Reply 54jonathan3579 5 hours ago Thumb upThumb down 0

It looks good…and that’s all I can say about it.

Reply 95YMS123 1 day ago Thumb upThumb down 0

Looks nice, but its not the tablet for me

Reply 95Bryan Stoner 1 day ago Thumb upThumb down 0

The specs are kinda sad but they certainly make up for that in build quality.

Reply 76mercado79 1 day ago Thumb upThumb down +2

whoever prices these tablets must be completely out of touch. or they just don’t care about selling any, but just want to make it seem like they’re an established brand… maybe for when they start selling windows 8 tablets. i imagine those will be more expensive right off the bat.

Reply 40Jon Garrett 22 hours ago Thumb upThumb down +2

this is why Android tablets are “struggling” according to Samsung but they still keep shooting themselves in the foot.

Reply 69Trinhbo 1 day ago Thumb upThumb down +3

It’s funny that Toshiba opted to sell this the day before the iPad 3 press event. Let’s see how many sales this move will steal away from Apple. /sarcasm

Come on Android! Stop shooting yourselves in the foot with crappy pricing and even crappier specs. It’s all about value. If you create a lower tiered device with a few good features, it’s great value at $200.

It’s even harder to sell something with a lot of features at $500 but only if you can show consumers where the value is. Apple’s ecosystem alone adds a lot of value to their iPads which is why they can get away with charging $500 as a starting point. Android unfortunately does not have many good tablet specific apps so it’s harder to convince consumers to spend $500 for a similar product.

Amen brother… I’m starting to despair at the continuing idiocy by Google and the tablet makers. Its like they’re wrapped in this weird bubble where the ipad doesn’t exist.

At least this Toshiba isn’t so bad. Has an mSD slot (awesome!), mHDMI (double awesome!). It looks good and has a nice screen.

But its on the lagtastic Honeycomb and has yesterday’s guts… and they still have the cheek to sell it for $500+. Sigh.

Ipad3 will be released in a few days and will blow away every existing tablet. I’ve yet to see anything at MWC that can counter. Man… Google and android tablets are screwed.

$500 is still good. Asus launched 64GB prime in India for $1000!!!

Reply Andrew GoodwinGuest 1 day ago Thumb upThumb down +4

Why can’t anyone put one solid piece of hardware together. great look, great everything, but the specs are down and the price is up?!?!?!?!?!?!?! NOPE, sorry boys ill settle for worse looking hardware, to have great specs and price.

Reply Xpeira FeverGuest 1 day ago Thumb upThumb down -1

It’s quite simple really, the aesthetics and build quality often go hand in hand and it simply isn’t cheap to make something look good, unless of course your 1 of those filthy slags from many of todays reality shows, they’re often very pleasing on the eye and very, very, cheap !!

Reply 46Bpear96 23 hours ago Thumb upThumb down +3

Hmm let me think.. Transformer Prime? Its nice looking, and great specs!

Reply ion orovGuest 22 hours ago Thumb upThumb down -1

… and costs an arm and a leg (especially here in Aus)… sigh

Reply 0ibbarkingmad 5 hours ago Thumb upThumb down 0

I agree. If I’m going to drop 500 bones (which I have) I’m gonna get a great tablet with a form factor that sets it a part.

Reply 0sere83 1 day ago Thumb upThumb down +5

LOL, Toshiba must be completely off their face on crack if they think they are gonna sell any of these with that spec at that price point. This spec is almost the same as The Archos G9 101 which is almost $200 less. (less ram, no back Cam)

Incidentally SmartQ have just released the Ten3 which has a Dual core 1GHZ Omap 4430, 1GB, lower res 1024×768 display and no back camera but is running 4.0.3 out the box and the price in China….$238

They will also soon release the T20 which has a better 1.5Ghz Dual Core Omap 4460, 1280×800 IPS panel, HDMI 4.0, ICS 4.0.3, 1GB Ram and 16GB memory for China price…..$300

Toshiba need a reality check.

Reply 62OpenIntro 1 day ago Thumb upThumb down +3

LOL @ the price. I ask again….who is in charge of these ridiculous pricing decisions?

Or do they think it’s cute to price them high so they can say they are on sale when they drop the price?

Reply 4reddragonman 1 day ago Thumb upThumb down +2

My guess would be dart board.

Reply ion orovGuest 22 hours ago Thumb upThumb down +1

or an ouija board and the ghost of Steve Jobs

Reply 0s2fan 1 day ago Thumb upThumb down 0

If they want to compete with Apple, toshiba, acer, samsung, lenovo etc. should seriously think about lowering the prices for these tablets.

Reply 78Galen20K 1 day ago Thumb upThumb down +1

I love the build quality of this but since it’s carrying last years specs, the price is completely unreasonable.

Reply 79Slith 1 day ago Thumb upThumb down +1

So the thinner they are the more they cost? Are these supermodels?

Reply 89Hall Lo 1 day ago Thumb upThumb down +1

This tablet actually looks amazing and very slick, but still the price maybe a little too high :(. Maybe for the business people who loves Android and very good looking tablet?

Reply 74aranea 1 day ago Thumb upThumb down +3

if it came with Android 4 and $150-$200 cheaper then it might had a chance as is it’s dead before released.

Reply 55Chris Lewis 23 hours ago Thumb upThumb down 0

Anyone else notice the fingernails in the photo?

Besides that the tablet looks cool

Reply 1chinot66 22 hours ago Thumb upThumb down +1

If they knock $100 buck off i maybe consider it.

Reply 47MoSDeeb 21 hours ago Thumb upThumb down 0

I Find it tough to be excited about any Toshiba product. I never held that brand in high regard.

Reply 48cb2000a 16 hours ago Thumb upThumb down +1

Won’t sell well at those prices. Drop $100 off of each and they might.

Reply GlenGuest 10 hours ago Thumb upThumb down +1

hate to say it. Android tablets are going to have a difficult time making any headway now. The lack of many tablets at CES/MWC this year compared to last year shows OEMs know its difficult to compete with Apple on price. Not to mention, impending Win8 release. I just think its best OEMs stop wasting more money and time on tabs. Might as well concentrate on phones in which they are doing well.

Reply 25kzlife 6 hours ago Thumb upThumb down 0

I agree with you, but it’s nice that everyone is competing as it would make the price lower for the consumers.. But I’m kinda tired of this years android tablets.. they are all the same!

I’m sorry to say it but android isn’t really ready for tablets, I own the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1″ and it isn’t as smooth as the ipad and the price were the same =/

Reply 72donger 9 hours ago Thumb upThumb down +1

agreed with everyone else, this is overpriced.

Reply Zac C.Guest 7 hours ago Thumb upThumb down +2

“But if you’re looking for a tablet with good looks and average specs” – Not much in the mood for another iPad.

Reply 25kzlife 6 hours ago Thumb upThumb down +1

It’s really great looking but the specs and price doesn’t seem to be worth it.. make these changes and it could stand out from the crowd

Reply 0ibbarkingmad 5 hours ago Thumb upThumb down 0

I’m not sure the thinnest is the thing people really want. We are too busy comparing sizes with Apple we forget all the advantages we have. I wish manufacturers would stop focusing on emulating Apple and actually innovate. So far as I can tell, ASUS is the only company that has taken this to heart and they suffer for distribution issues. Innovation is more than playing the size game with Apple and each other and more to do with trying to fill a need in the market. Tablets as a replacement for the laptop is just scratching the surface.

Reply 0ibbarkingmad 5 hours ago Thumb upThumb down 0

Oh, and pricing is a big deal too. Apple’s stupid overpriced products are not a realistic starting point.

Reply 49jsweetser2 3 hours ago Thumb upThumb down 0

For the money, i’d get a Prime any day of the week. Silly Toshiba.

Reply KevinGuest 2 hours ago Thumb upThumb down 0

Edgar, can you give me an estimate as to when AT&T will make this available?

Reply 56yankeesusa 1 hour ago Thumb upThumb down 0

This is a sweet looking tablet but they may be overpricing it.
