Buying Guide: 10 best gifts for iPhone owners

10 best gifts for iPhone owners

There's no shortage of iPhone gadgets on the market in time for the holiday season, but how do you separate the best iPhone accessories from the also-rans?

With our help, of course!

We've delved into our extensive knowledge of iPhone accessories to provide you with a definitive list of 10 of the best gifts for anyone with an iPhone, whether it's an iPhone 4S, 4, 3GS or 3G.

So whether you're stuck for what to get a friend or relative for Christmas, or feel like treating yourself, read on for some inspiration.

1. Case - Pro/Tec Executive Leather Case - £7

iPhone cases can be expensive, but you needn't shell out loads of cash to get a decent one. This Pro/Tec Executive Leather Case gives fantastic protection, helps keep dust out of the Dock connector and comes in versions for both the iPhone 3G/3GS and 4/4S. Both are absolutely superb.

2. Battery case - Mophie Juice Pack Plus - £59

There's nothing worse than being out and about, watching your iPhone's battery dwindling down, until it finally dies on you. But with a 2,000mAh Mophie Juice Pack Plus, you can almost double your iPhone 4's battery life.

While it adds some extra weight and bulk to your iPhone, it's a price worth paying for the much longer use time you'll get out of it. What's more, the case does a good job protecting your phone, too. For the iPhone 3G or 3GS, check out the Mophie Juice Pack Air.

3. Speaker dock - Philips Fidelio DS3020 - £50

A teeny tiny speaker at a teeny tiny little price, but the sound that comes out of it is nothing short of awesome: it's far and away the best you can get for £50. Beautifully clear trebles are complemented by surprisingly good bass. The unit itself looks gorgeous, and is small enough to fit just about anywhere. Better still, you can pop in some batteries to take your music on the go.

4. Bedside dock - Memorex Mini Alarm Clock Radio - £46

A machine of many talents: Dock an iPhone in the Memorex Mini Alarm Clock Radio, and it'll charge your device overnight. Better still, the built-in alarm can be programmed to play the tunes from your music library, so you'll be able to wake up to your favourite songs. And for such a small unit, the sound's really rather good.

5. Car mount - TomTom Car Kit for iPhone - £80

The iPhone makes a brilliant sat-nav device for in your car - but you need a way to mount it securely. TomTom's Car Kit for iPhone is the perfect thing: it attaches your phone firmly to the windscreen, and allows you to rotate it between portrait and landscape orientation with ease.

It's more than just a mount, though: it has a speaker to amplify the spoken instructions, a built-in GPS for better navigation accuracy and a charging lead to keep your iPhone's battery topped up. As for an app to use with it, our current favourite is TomTom's at £49.99 for the UK & Ireland edition.

Garmin's recent release is also worth a look though, and is £10 cheaper, though it doesn't take advantage of the GPS in the TomTom Car Kit.

6. TV tuner - Elgato Tivizen - £109

This little Freeview receiver is small enough to slip into a pocket or bag, and will provide TV on your iPhone without touching the monthly mobile data allowance. The only downside is that you can't connect an external aerial, and the little built-in one isn't always enough to pick up a signal in areas where a rooftop antenna can.

7. Stylus - Wacom Bamboo Stylus - £25

A stylus is great for sketching, note-taking and even general use of the iPhone, and the Wacom Bamboo Stylus is our favourite, despite its costing more than many others. It's been designed to feel like the weight of a pencil in your hand, and the tip is as small as you can use on an iPhone screen, so it gives you a great deal of precision.

8. Keyboard - Logitech Tablet Keyboard for iPad - £48

Don't be fooled by the name, because this'll work perfectly well with your iPhone too. Having a keyboard is a brilliant way to speed up how you use your phone. Whether you're writing a text message, tweet, Facebook update or a longer piece of prose, the Logitech Tablet Keyboard for iPad is a fantastic keyboard to type on: the keys are the same size as you get on a regular desktop keyboard, and they boast a beautifully light action.
