Updated: Motorola Razr confirmed for the UK

The Motorola Razr has been officially announced for the UK at an event in Berlin.

Alain Mutricy of Motorola took the stage, with TechRadar in attendance, and announced the arrival of the "best smartphone on the planet".

The handset launched yesterday as the Motorola Droid Razr over in the US, but it was only today that the official media event for UK took place.

Speaking about the new handset, Mutricy said: "It's been a very exciting year so far with the Google acquisition but what is most exciting for us is how smartphones are changing.

"Today I want to talk about innovation, about a new device that will change things."

That new device is the Motorola Razr, with Mutricy noting: "While having the latest technology is crucial, just as important is the way the phone looks and feels.

"Our mission was to not only create the true object of desire, with incredible finesse but deliver this without any compromise.

"So, how do we combine a leading design with cutting edge performance? We needed something that was thin but durable, be fast, have a high-resolution screen and it must have some cool, new innovative features."

Motorola is certainly bringing the specs appeal, with the Razr measuring 7.1mm in thickness - it's the world's thinnest - a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus screen and 1.2Ghz dualcore processor.

Not only is the handset now confirmed for the UK market, but one retailer has even posted its Motorola Razr UK price and release date.

Clove has given the new Razr its arachnoid nickname (Spyder), and posits that you can get it for £454.80, with UK release date expected for 1 November. Bear in mind that until we hear it from Moto itself, these are subject to change.

But as far as we know, that's when you can get your mitts around the "world's thinnest smartphone", complete with its Gorilla Glass frontage and Kevlar back panel.

Unfortunately, it comes running Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) and not the snazzy new Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) that launched last night.

But the 1.2GHz dual-core processor isn't to be sniffed at, and the 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display promises excellent graphical things.

Stay tuned for our hands on Motorola Razr review coming later today.
